Kitchen Renovation Guides for Vancouver Island

Oceanside Kitchen Studio publishes three straightforward guides: what a kitchen renovation costs here, which permits you need, and how to design a kitchen you can still use in twenty years. We wrote them so you can get the answer before you talk to anybody.

Why we wrote these

Most of the questions we answer on a first visit are the same questions, and they have straight answers: what a permit covers, why stone gets templated after the cabinets are set, what makes one cabinet box cost twice another, how long a job actually takes the room out of use. We put them in writing so you can read them before you talk to anybody, and arrive at the conversation already knowing which parts of the job are fixed and which parts are genuinely your choice. The prices come from kitchens we have finished, and each guide carries the month we last reviewed it.

Where to start

If you mainly want to know whether the project is affordable, start with the cost guide. If you already know what you want and the question is whether you're allowed to do it, start with the permits guide, because the answer changes what the work costs. The accessibility guide is worth reading even if nobody in the house needs it yet — several of those details cost nothing extra while the room is open and a great deal to retrofit later.
